But an impressive winning performance by the Indian grandmaster in 2014 FIDE candidates tournament has presented him with to opportunity to take the revenge and the title from the Norwegian.Let's take a look on the other famous historic comebacks made by sport persons in the various arenas of the sport.Rafeal Nadal( Tennis):The tennis star from Spain made an impressive return after a seven-month injury layoff in February 2013. Nadal went on to win 10 titles in total including 2 Grand Slam titles (French Open, US Open) and five ATP Masters. He ended the year as world number one for the third time. Monica Seles(Tennis): It was during a match in 1993 that a fan of Steffi Graph had ran down from the stands and had attacked Seles with a knife between the shoulders. She did not played for two years but came back with a bang in 1995 . In the following year she won the Australian open. Lance Armstrong (Cycling):The champion of the one of the most talked and difficult cycling competition Tour de France . He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996, and was given a very few percentage of survival .But he not only defeated Cancer but went on to win seven Tour de France title from 1999 to 2005. Andre Agassi (Tennis):The tennis star from America was addicted to drugs which had effected his game considerably. He had a lowest career ranking of 144.But it was in 1999, that the tennis star who failed in a dope test went on to win two grand slams , The Australian open and the US open. Yuvraj Singh( Cricket):The South paw of the Indian cricket team who played a crucial role in helping Team India laying its hand on the World Cup for the first time after 23 years. But after few days the whole nation received a shocking news that Yuvraj was diagnosed with a malignant tumour between his lung and heart known as seminoma. But the fighter made a comeback and played a crucial knock in the only T20 against Australia in which he had scored a 35 ball 77 runs innings which helped team India to cross the huge target of 201 runs successfully.He is now a part of the cricket team that is currently playing the world T20.
