Mahela Jayawardene who is appearing in his last World Cup, had all the praise for the new entrant Afghanistan saying they were a good bowling unit.
Jayawardene was addressing the media after the match which Sri Lanka managed to pull off after some anxious moments. Afganistan's bowlers sliced through the top order to leave Sri Lanka, 1996 World Cup Champions reeling at 50-4 at one stage.
Mahela Jayawardene said Afghanistan bowlers used new ball intelligently and bowled really good areas, up front, moved the ball. It was a tough wicket to bat on initially.
“I think for us to play a tough match like that, probably a good thing in this tournament. I think there are areas which we need to improve and hopefully we can make sure we improve those areas”, said Jayawardene
Talking about his ton he said he enjoyed that hundred as a one of those World cup final hundreds. He said he was disappointed not to finish the game off.
He further added it was tough match that will give them confidence for rest of the tournament.
