New Delhi: It was a match between rivals India and Pakistan in the Sahara Cup in 1997, in Toronto. The Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club was jam packed with supporters of both the teams, rooting for their respective teams.As the Indian team began batting in the second match of the series, the NRI crowd were hooting the Pakistani fielders with Inzamam singled out for targeting. Shiv Kumar Thind, a Canada-based Indian, who had been permitted into the ground with a megaphone, mocked Inzamam. According to media reports and some eye witnesses, Shiv said, “"O mote, sidha khada ho [O fatso, stand straight], mota aaloo, sada aaloo [fat potato, rotten potato]."On listening this, Inzamam ul Haq became so angry that he snatched the bat from the batsman and ran into the crowd to beat Shiv Kumar. Some of the spectators and security staff tried to stop him, otherwise he would have hit the head of that man with the bat. As Canadian police took Inzamam back onto the field, he was trying to get back to the stands.The Canadian Police detained the unruly spectator, Inzamam regretted his action and said sorry to the spectators and after 40 minutes of delay the match resumed.
