London: Ross Taylor struck an unbeaten 119 and Kane Williamson fell just short of a century as New Zealand smashed 398-5 — its second-highest 50-over total — in the second one-day international against England on Friday.

The Black Caps hit 13 sixes, 40 fours and all but one of their seven batsmen went along quicker than a run a ball in easily the highest ODI score at The Oval, with England's attack getting hammered for nearly eight runs per over.

Taylor's knock came off 96 balls and was his 13th ODI century, which included 10 fours and four sixes.

England won the first match of the five-series by 210 runs on Tuesday after compiling 408-9, and New Zealand nearly matched it three days later after winning the toss. The tourists closed four runs short of their ODI record — 402-2 against Ireland in 2008.

Williamson struck 93 to just miss out on a seventh ODI hundred and Martin Guptill had 50, after captain Brendon McCullum hit 39 off 22 balls at the top of the innings to set the tone.

England paceman Chris Jordan was picked off regularly, and had figures of 1-97 off nine overs before leaving the field with an apparent rib or side injury.

A total of more than 400 looked on, only for England to stem the flow of boundaries in the last five overs, during which it conceded 47 runs.

Runs also flowed in the two-match test series between the teams, which ended 1-1.
