New Delhi: In a game that is played with 120 balls per side ,it takes something very special effort from the batsman to score a century in this format. In the fifth edition of ICC world T20 , Alex Hales from England became the first batsman to hit a century in the ongoing tournament. His innings not only provided a stunning victory to the English team but also he lived up to his reputation of being a big hitter. Let's take a look on the special batsmen who hold the unique record of scoring century in the shortest format of the game. Brendon McCullum(123) :It was in the last edition of ICC world T20 at Srilanka that the highest ever individual score was made. The Kiwi team was playing a game against Bangladesh .The batsman was present skipper of the Kiwi Side Brendon Mc Cullum. He played an extraordinary innings in which he scored runs at will and the Bangladeshi bowlers seemed to have no reply to his hard hitting shots.McCullum plundered seven sixes and 11 fours in his 58-ball 123, beating the record of 117 previously jointly held by Richard Levi and Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle(117): It was the opening match of the first edition of ICC world T20. The host South Africa although went on to win the match but not before they have seen ‘gayle storm' in full force.In an innings of 57 balls the Jamaican blasted of 10 sixes and 7 fours to keep the south African bowlers and fielders go on a leather hunting. Richard Levi(117) : The batsman from the rainbow nation of South Africa proved to be a nightmare for the Kiwi bowlers. In a T20 international that was played between the two teams ,New Zealand were sent to bat first in the innings in which they scored 173 runs but that proved to be insufficient as the Protease batsman had other ideas. Richard Levi hit the maximum number of sixes , a total of 13 sixes and 5 fours.He scored 117 runs from 51 balls helping his team to overcome the total with in 16 overs. He also holds the record of scoring the fastest hundred in T20 match. He scored the runs in 45 deliveries. Alex Hales: The first century has been scored in the present edition of the World T20 and it is none other than the much talked about Alex Hales. He has been touted as one of the big hitters in the present edition of World T20. He lived up to his reputation and helped his team in defeating Sri Lanka in a crucial game. He helped his team from a precarious situation when it had lost two early wickets. His innings of 64 balls 116 runs consists of 11 boundaries and 6 sixes . He along with Eoin Morgan had a record third wicket partnership of 152 runs for the third wicket. Suresh Raina(101): The first and only Indian till date to score a century in a T20 game. It was in the third edition in 2010 where India were facing South Africa .India had batted first and scored a total of 186 runs . India then defeated South Africa as the Protease fell short by 14 runs.Suresh Raina in a 60 balls innings had hit 9 fours and five sixes to notch up his first T20 century.Mahela Jayawardene(100): The experienced campaigner who is known more for his technique rather than power hitting has shown his unusual side when he smashed the cricket ball all over the park.He scored an exactly 100 runs from 54 balls in the third edition of world T20.His 64 innings had a total of ten fours and four sixes. His century had helped his team to score a total of 173 runs against Zimbabwe. The Sri Lankan team ultimately won the match 14 runs through D/L method. Aaron Finch (156): When it comes to T20 centurions, Australian opener Aaron Finch just cannot be ignored! He has the world record for the highest individual score in any T20I against England last year. Finch scored 156 from 63 balls to pass the previous mark of 123 set by New Zealand's Brendon McCullum against Bangladesh in Pallekele in 2012. He hit 11 fours and 14 sixes in his innings. His tally of 14 sixes is the most in any international T20 innings.Finch became the first Australian to score an international T20 century. It was the second fastest international T20 hundred, falling two balls short of Richard Levi's 45-ball blitz against New Zealand in 2012.Australia's score of 5-248 is the second highest T20I score behind Sri Lanka's 6-260 versus Kenya in 2007.
