ICC World T20: The players who were a big let down for their teams

New Delhi: The fifth edition of the shortest format of the game has produced stellar performance by some players but on the other hand there has been group of players who prove to be a big let down for their teams. The list includes player from almost all countries that participated in the tournament.Jade Dernbach: The pacer from the England who was once considered to be a specialist in T20 format had a dismal T20 world cup. He played a total of three matches in which he had bowled a total of nine overs and gave away 99 runs. He had an economy of 11.00 which is pretty high by T20 standards. His overall economy is 8.71.Ajantha Mendis: The mystery spinner who found the carrom ball seems to be losing his touch. Despite a good bowling performance against one of the associates,he did not seem to trouble the batsmen. He played three matches in the tournament and had an economy of more than 10 .The South African and the English batsmen were particularly hard on Mendis.Tim Southee: The Kiwi speedster had a forgettable tournament as his team had a lot of expectation from him. But he played only two matches after which he was dropped. He bowled a total of eight overs and had an economy of 11.50. In spin friendly pitches the pacer had no idea of what will be his bowling area.Mitchell Starc: Starc had a good record coming into this tournament but the whole scenario got changed after his poor performance in the ICC world T20. He bowled a total of 6 overs in the four matches but was leaking runs frequently. He had an economy of 9.12 in the four matches that he bowled. Marlon Samuels: The Caribbean all-rounder had the conditions tailor made for him.But Samuels was not able to take any advantage in Bangladesh. He had scores of 18, 18,12, 20 in the four outings and that too at a strike rate of below 100. That Samuels has managed to make a start in each innings makes the matter all-the-more curious; his scores of 18, 18, 12 and 20 coming at an arduously slow rate of 88.31George Bailey: The whole Australian team was a big let down in the tournament. The skipper of the team George Bailey also did not perform well when it matter the most. At the four outings he had Bailey scored only 35 runs and had a strike rate of 92.10 which is not at all good by T20 standards.Shane Watson: The biggest let down of the tournament. A big hitter who was expected to led his team from the front looked completely out of sorts. Watson scored just seven runs at an average of 2.33 which is one of the lowest runs made by any batsman. His highest score was only four. Mohammad Hafeez: The Pakistani skipper was also a big let down for his team. He just scored 55 runs at a strike rate of 72.36. Hafeez seemed to not have any clues to the bowling of the opposition bowlers.He had such a bad tournament that he had to give up his captaincy in the shortest format of the game.His highest score in the tournament was only 19 that too from 32 balls.Kumar Sangakkara: The veteran Sri Lankan who has announced that he will retire from the shortest format of the game after these edition of the world T20 has remained silent with his bat. He will get just one opportunity in the final. He had played atotal of four matches in which he had scored 18 runs at an average of 6.Martin Guptill: The opening batsman of New Zealand had an horrific run in the tournament. The four matches that he had played has scored just 47 runs. His strike rate was also very poor. It was only 81.03. Martin seemed to not get his timing right and had very sluggish items in almost all the league games.
