Five reasons why Australia failed in World T20

New Delhi: Despite riding high on recent success in all format of the game Australia's performance in this edition of World T20 has been pathetic, losing the first three games in super-10. The most humiliating defeat was against India when they were bowled out for 86. However there are some moments which every Aussie fan would like to cherish is Glenn Maxwell's form. There are other players who are contributing a bit, but overall the performance has been like the minnows.Consolation win against Bangladesh by 7 wickets in their last super-10 game will be a happy moment after they exit from the tournament.India TV looks in to the reasons for this degraded performance: 1) POOR SHOT SELECTIONAustralia had fallen short each of the two times they chased the target against Pakistan and India. The batsmen trying to experiment with their shot selection took them down. It was against Pakistan, while chasing 192, Aussie batsmen got out while playing similar shots that proved wrong earlier. Their worst T20 chase was against India when they were bowled for 86 while chasing 160. Almost every second batsmen tried to play reverse sweep and slog sweeps. They were unable to read the slow deliveries and mistiming the shots led to cheap dismissals. Maxwell who was in good form, had a freak dismissal while playing reverse on Ashwin's carrom ball. 2) DEATH OVERS PERFORMANCEAustralia needed 46 runs in the last five overs with 7 wickets remaining against Pakistan. But Pak bowlers tied them in their spin and they could score only 30 runs and lost all the seven wickets remaining resulting in the defeat by 16 runs. The target was not much far before five overs and the crowd was expecting a win but what happened later, was just not accepted by the fans. Poor death overs bowling also proved to be costly for the team. West Indies needed 57 runs in the last five overs which was not an easy target. But later loose line and light by the Aussie bowlers took the match away from them. Windies required 12 runs in the last and their captain Darren Sammy hit two huge sixes off James Faulkner and won the match by 6 wickets.3) SPINAussie performance against the spinners has been unimpressive in the World T20. Be it Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal, Windies' Sunil Narine or India's Ravichandran Ashwin, the batsmen were badly humiliated by this trio.The spin bowling department which included the legendary Brad Hogg, could not even threaten the opposition. With Hodge, Maxwell and Muirhead present in the team, none of the spinner could even managed to get more than 1 wicket in a match. Collectively they could only managed to pick up 4 wickets in all the four games. 4) SLOPPY FIELDING Australians who were praised for their fielding, lost all the fame in Bangladesh. They dropped three easy catches against Pakistan which certainly contributed in their loss.Aussie Captain George Bailey accepted of being low-standard in fielding department and proved to be the point of difference in World T20. 5) BUSY SCHEDULEWorkload cannot be an excuse for a player not performing in the modern cricket but in this World T20 many Aussies looked exhausted which resulted in their performance. Shane Watson, Brad Haddin and David Warner have been playing non-stop cricket since October 2013, and there is no doubt on the capability and the energy they have which they couldn't show.
