Khulna, Bangladesh: Opener Tamim Iqbal batted throughout the day to lead Bangladesh to 193-3 Monday on the first day of the second test against Zimbabwe.

At stumps, Iqbal was 74 not out with Shakib Al Hasan on 13.

Mahmudullah was the other notable scorer with 56.

Iqbal made two significant partnerships with Mominu Haque (35) and Mahmudullah to lay a solid platform for Bangladesh, defying the disciplined bowling effort of Zimbabwe.

Tinshae Panyangara claimed 2-29 while Elton Chigumbura returned figures with 1-32 for Zimbabwe.

Earlier Opener Tamim Iqbal struck a patient half century to steer Bangladesh to 127-2 at tea.

Iqbal was batting on 50 with Mahmudullah on 29 not out at the break after Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first.

Mominul Haque was the other notable contributor with 35 runs and was the only batsman to be dismissed in the second session.

Haque was undone by the extra bounce off Tinashe Panyangara (1-19) when he offered a return catch after adding 72 runs with Iqbal.

Haque's wicket was the only success that Zimbabwe could grab in the session. As the pitch gradually slowed, Iqbal and Mahmudullah adopted a cautious approach.

Relying mostly on singles, Iqbal brought up his first 50 against Zimbabwe in the last over of the middle session when he took a single off Natsai M'Shangwe.
He played 169 balls to reach the 17th half-century of his career and what turned out to be his slowest 50.
Shamsur Rahman was the dismissed in the morning session when he was trapped lbw for 2 by Elton Chigumbura (1-19).

Earlier Bangladesh batted steadily to reach 62-1 at lunch on the first day of the second cricket test against Zimbabwe on Monday.

Tamim Iqbal was batting on 27 with Mominul Haque on 26 at the break after Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first.

Shamsur Rahman was the only batsman to be dismissed in the morning session when he was trapped lbw for 2 by Elton Chigumbura (1-10). The umpire's decision was not out but Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor called for a review, which went in his favor.

Iqbal and Haque combined to deal with the Zimbabwe bowlers patiently and add 56 runs in an unbroken second-wicket stand.

Bangladesh leads the three-match series 1-0.

Zimbabwe made three changes to squad that lost the first test by three wickets, bringing in Brian Chari, Natsai M'Shangwe and Malcolm Waller at the expense of Vusi Sibanda, John Nyumbu and Tafadzwa Kamungozi.
