DDCA honours Gautam Gambhir post retirement

The firebrand cricketer was gifted a memorabilia from DDCA President Rajat Sharma to mark the occasion of the century in his final innings.

Delhi and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir who announced his retirement from the game recently has been honoured by the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) for his exemplary career. The cricketer was felicitated after the conclusion of the left-hander's final first-class game against Andhra Pradesh in which he also hit a magnificent 112 runs.

The firebrand cricketer was gifted a memorabilia from DDCA President Rajat Sharma to mark the occasion of the century in his final innings. The latter also marked the occasion with a tweet saying: "DDCA honours @GautamGambhir on his retirement from cricket. We expect him to contribute more of his time for promotion of cricket in Delhi @delhi_cricket"

The aggressive opener was India's top-scorer in the finals of the 2007 World T20 in South Africa and the 2011 ODI World Cup, both of which the country won. 

Gambhir, one of the most successful batsmen for India, has been out of favour with the national team for a while now after a dip in form and last played a Test back in 2016 against England.

Gambhir was honoured by the DDCA.

Gambhir made 58 Test appearances for India, accumulating 4154 runs at an average of 41.95. His 147 ODI games fetched 5238 runs, while in 37 T20 Internationals, he scored 932 runs. In first-class cricket, Gambhir has scored more than 15,000 runs including 43 hundreds and 68 half-centuries in 198 matches.

The capricious left-hander, who courted controversy of late for his outspoken views on political issues as well, had a prolific first-class career, which spanned 197 matches and produced 15,041 runs. His List A run count stands at 10,077.
