Arvinder Singh Lovely

Arvinder Singh Lovely is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and a former Delhi Cabinet minister in the Sheila Dikshit government from 2003 to 2013. He held several ministries, including Education, Urban Development, Revenue, Transport, Tourism, and Gurudwara Election. Lovely was with the Congress earlier and won four consecutive Assembly polls from the Gandhi Nagar constituency in 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013. In the 1998 Delhi Assembly polls, Lovely defeated BJP's Swinderjit Singh Bajwa by 6,762 votes. Lovely retained the seat in 2003 by defeating BJP's Tarjeet Singh with a margin of 23,985 votes. He won the constituency in 2008 and 2013 by defeating BJP candidates Kamal Kumar Jain and Ramesh Chand Jain, respectively. Lovely was the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president from 2013 to 2015. He joined the BJP in 2017 but returned to the Congress party in 2018 and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha Election from the East Delhi seat but lost to BJP's Gautam Gambhir by a huge margin of 3,91,222 votes. He fought the 2020 Delhi Assembly Election as a Congress nominee from Gandhi Nagar but stood third after BJP's Anil Kumar Bajpai and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Naveen Chaudhary. He again became the DPCC chief for a brief period between 2023 and 2024 and rejoined the BJP in 2024. Lovely is again contesting from Gandhi Nagar in the upcoming Delhi Assembly Election 2025 against Congress candidate Kamal Arora and AAP's Naveen Chaudhary.
