IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Rohit, Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan make merry in Rajkot

Team India ended the opening day of the third Test in Rajkot at 326/5 after 86 overs. It would've been a lot better for the hosts if not for the run-out of Sarfaraz Khan who was looking good on his debut smashing 62 runs. Nevertheless, India are, for now, ahead in the Test.

  • Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja dominated the day for India. The duo joined hands together when India were in trouble at 33/3 and stitched a brilliant double-century stand, first for India in India since 2019, to bail the team out of trouble. Mark Wood broke the marathon partnership but by then they had added 204 runs for the fourth wicket.

  • However, earlier it was all Mark Wood for England as he made the new ball talk and more so with his pace. He dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in his first spell and then came back to send back centurion Rohit Sharma. The day ended with some Wood brilliance too as he affected a brilliant direct hit to send back good looking Sarfaraz Khan to the pavilion.

  • Sarfaraz Khan won the hearts with his innings in the last session. The man came out to bat after Rohit Sharma got out and made sure to make the innings memorable for himself. His footwork against spin was superb and made sure to rotate the strike regularly even as his partner got stuck in the 90s. Sarfaraz also attacked at times smashing the joint-second fastest fifty for India in Test cricket history off just 48 balls.
