Every year, Teachers' Day is celebrated across the country on September 5. It is observed on this day because it marks the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan -- an Indian scholar, philosopher and statesman. He once expressed that instead of celebrating his birthday separately, the day should be observed as a tribute to the contribution of teachers. That is why Teachers' Day is celebrated every year on September 5. Dr Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President of India and the country's second President.
