I felt extremely happy to see grassroots level achievers being recognised for their exemplary efforts to further public good. Congratulations to all those who have been conferred the #PeoplesPadma".
The awards were presented at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan
The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.
Modi has often asserted that his government has opened up the Padma award selection process and recognised the services of people from humble backgrounds.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were among the attendees.
119 Padma Awards were presented by President this year. The list comprisesd seven Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards.
29 of the awardees are women, 16 Posthumous awardees and one transgender awardee.
