North India reels under floods, landslides triggered by heavy rains | In Pics

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh. Besides, a yellow alert has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan.

Rains across north India have wreaked havoc, with incidents of landslides and cloudbursts being reported on a daily basis. National capital Delhi is also reeling under acute rain, causing widespread disruptions. Yamuna River has crossed the danger mark in Delhi and low-lying areas are at flood risk.

Uttarakhand has been witnessing torrential rains, with landslides leading to closure of key roads. The Uttarakhand government on Monday postponed the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra till September 5 in view of inclement weather in the state. The Uttarakhand government on Monday postponed the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra till September 5 in view of inclement weather in the state. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts across the state in the next five days.
Jammu and Kashmir is also bearing the brunt of inclement weather conditions. All schools across the UT remain closed amid alert for heavy rain. The Indian Army constructed a 110-foot bailey bridge over the Tawi River in Jammu city after a section of bridge collapsed due to heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

Punjab is reeling under severe floods due to swollen Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers and seasonal rivulets amid  heavy rain in their catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The Kapurthala district administration has issued a warning, urging residents of the Sultanpur Lodhi area to shift to safer locations as the water level in the Beas river. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal stated that the Beas river's water flow has surged to 2.35 lakh cusecs because of the continuous downpour.

Landslide has blocked a key route in Uttarakhand's Chamoli days after flash floods in Uttarkashi. Authorities are working proactively to open the road for the traffic. The bridge connecting Uttarkashi to Harsil has been reconstructed to facilitate easy movement of machinery and relief materials.

Six people were killed and went missing as heavy rains and a series of cloudbursts wreaked havoc in various districts of Uttarakhand on Friday. Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Bageshwar districts have been the worst hit.
