Cyclone Montha weakened into a cyclonic storm after making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and widespread crop damage. One person died in Konaseema district, and over 38,000 hectares of farmland were destroyed.

The storm is now moving northwest at around 10 km per hour, maintaining its cyclonic strength for a few more hours before weakening into a deep depression, according to IMD’s latest update.

The cyclone destroyed crops across 38,000 hectares and damaged horticulture produce in 1.38 lakh hectares of land, officials confirmed. Several houses and power lines were also damaged.

IMD said the cyclone crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam early Wednesday. Its position and intensity were closely monitored by Doppler radars in Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam.
