Kabul, Aug 27 : Taliban insurgents have beheaded 17 Afghan civilians for taking part in a music event in a Taliban-controlled area of southern Afghanistan, officials said.

The Interior Ministry said  Taliban carried out this heinous act on Sunday in Musa Qala district of Helmand province.

Helmand provincial government spokesman Daoud Ahmadi said,  all of the victims had their heads chopped off.

He said, it was not clear whether the Taliban shot them first.

The Musa Qala government chief said, people had gathered for a celebration and were playing music and dancing and the Taliban wanted to stop the event.

Neyamatullah Khan says the area where the slaughter took place is at present completely under Taliban control and he had no more details.

In another attack, 10 Afghan soldiers were killed By Taliban at a checkpoint in the same province.

Officials said four soldiers were wounded in the attack in Washir district overnight on August 26-27.

Five missing soldiers left with their assailants, but it was unclear if they were kidnapped or they went voluntarily.

A spokesman for the Helmand provincial administration, Daud Ahmadi, said the attack was an "insider" plot in which some army soldiers helped the rebels attack the post.

Meanwhile,  NATO says two of its soldiers were shot dead in a new “green-on blue,” or insider, attack by an Afghan army soldier.
