Kabul:

With new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Herat province of Afghanistan, the total number of COVID19 positive cases has reached 11 in the country on Saturday. The governor of Herat, Abdul Qayum Rahimi announced about the fresh cases in the city.

Herat is the second-largest city in Afghanistan. The Afghan Ministry of Health said there have been around 200 suspected coronavirus cases in Afghanistan so far.

Earlier, Pakistan had sealed its western borders with Iran and Afghanistan to prevent any cross-border transmission.

Meanwhile, President Ghani chaired the National Security Council meeting on Wednesday to discuss preventive measures to fight the coronavirus.

The deadly coronavirus has claimed more than 5,000 lives worldwide with around 1,46,314 confirmed cases. However, about 72,556 people have been recovered. Several cities in various countries have been locked down in a move to contain the virus and prevent transmission further.
