Bangalore, Oct 18: Arrested former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was today shifted from a heart specialist centre to a general hospital hours after the Karnataka High Court deferred to October 20 hearing on his interim bail plea in the land scam case.

As a large media waited outside the main entrance of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology for Yeddyurappa to come out, he was taken away in the evening in an ambulance to the state-run Victoria hospital through a third exit point.

His heart condition is “normal”, a doctor at the heart centre said. Yeddyurappa has other medical problems like diabetes and back ache for which he has been moved to the government hospital, the doctor said.

In Delhi, Congress had a dig at the former CM. “Whoever goes to jail falls ill. I think we must constitute some research what disease suddenly crops up when one sees the the prison door,” party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary told reporters.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid said BJP has a lot explain on what happened in Karnataka.

Justice B V Pinto of the Karnataka High Court adjourned the hearing on the application filed yesterday by Yeddyurappa, who, facing imminent arrest, had surrendered before the Lokayukta Court on Saturday last after it rejected his bail application.

The judge rejected the plea by C H Hanumantharaya, the counsel for the petitioner Sirajin Basha, for 20 days time to file his objections to the bail plea.

Yeddyurappa's counsel Ravi B Naik objected to this and submitted that since it was only an interim bail application, it should be heard as early as possible.

The Lokayukta court had on October 15 remanded Yeddyurappa to judicial custody till October 22.

Five private complaints have been filed by Basha against Yeddyurappa alleging irregularities in denotification of government land.

The former chief minister has been undergoing treatment in the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology for high blood pressure and chest pain since October 15.

Jayadeva Hospital Director Dr C N Manjunath said he has been discharged after his angiogram revealed no significant blockages in arteries.

After the BJP leader had surrendered before the court and sent to the central prison, Yeddyurappa had complained of chest pain and shifted to the heart centre. PTI
