The mysterious 'Rahul' figuring as a target of US national held for having Lashkar-e Taiba links is not Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Home Minister P Chidambaram appeared to suggest on Friday in New Delhi.
"It is not the Rahul that you think it is. It could be a pseudonym, it could be a code name but please be assured that it is not the Rahul that you think is," he said at a press conference in an obvious reference to the Congress MP.
The Home Minister was replying when asked as to who was the 'Rahul', identified as the prime target of Chicago resident David Coleman Headley.
According to FBI, Headley was planning to carry out a major terror attack in India this month at the behest of Pakistan-based LeT.
"Please be assured that there is no threat to anyone that you and I know," Chidambaram repeated, apparently referring to Rahul Gandhi.
Asked about the arrested US national, the Home Minister said Headley had visited Pakistan on several occasions and most of the time it seemed he had travelled on his own name, under the regular passport issued in his own name.
"Now who are his friends, who he had met there...these are matters of investigation," he said.
He said Indian investigators would reach the US on Sunday to join probe against Headley. PTI
