Imphal: Two militants have been arrested during separate combing operations in Manipur and a powerful bomb, intended to plant on the side of road to attack security personnel, was seized, the police said today.
Following reports of movement of some militants, commandos attached to Imphal West and Senapati district and personnel of 4rd Assam Rifles battalion launched a manhunt at Somipayang hill village in Senapati district last evening, the police said.
They said during the search operation an active member of militant outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-P) identified as Khayatlet Haokip alias Khoiboi was arrested.
A powerful bomb, battery and a 150-metre-long wire were seized from his possession, sources said adding that the bomb was meant to be planted at a roadside to attack security personnel with a remote-controlled device.
In another search operation in Imphal west district yesterday, police commandos nabbed a militant of Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup identified as Laishram Romendro (37), sources said adding that one mobile phone and two cars were seized from him.
The two militants have been sent to Imphal west district police for further interrogation, sources said.
