Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police announced a ‘Good Citizens' initiative today to recognise the services of those who have gone out of their way to prevent or detect a crime, to prevent a law and order situation from developing, or help fellow citizens in an exceptional manner.

As part of the initiative, three people selected for their commendable acts were awarded with ‘Good Citizen Certificates' by Cyberabad Commissioner of Police C V Anand at a function held at the Commissionerate Headquarters here today, according to an official release.

A worker at a curry joint, J Chandu, besides two others, S Mallesh, a senior finance executive at GKC Project and A Satya Shekhar, a senior manager at Mahindra Satyam were selected for their roles in preventing an robbery attempt and nabbing a car driver who had driven in a rash and negligent manner respectively.

On August 19, after concluding his daily business Chandu was carrying cash of Rs 45,000 to his owner's house, when he was waylaid by an armed robber, who asked him to hand over the cash.

However, Chandu resisted the attacker despite being shot at and injured by a pellet fired from his air pistol and thwarted the robbery attempt by putting up a brave fight.

In another incident that was reported on June 19, Mallesh and Satya Shekhar not only helped an injured traffic constable called Mallesham, who was hit by a car driver, Wasiullah Hussain, who had driven in a rash and negligent manner under Madhapur traffic police station limits, but also chased the driver and helped the police in apprehending him, the release said.
