Gateway of India

One of the famous and unique landmarks of India, the Gateway of India, is located on the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai and overlooks the Arabian Sea.
A major tourist attraction, the Gateway of India was built during the British Raj to commemorate the landing of their Majesties King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder in 1911.
Made of basalt, Gateway of India was built in Indo-Saracenic style.
While the foundation stone for the Gateway of India was laid on 31 March 1911, the final deign was laid by George Wittet, which was sanctioned in 1914 and the monument was completed in 1924.
Its design is a combination of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles; the arch is of Muslim style while the decorations are of Hindu style.
Referred to as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai, the Gateway of India is a famous tourist spots of the city.
