In the last seven months, there had been "incidents/accidents" involving 10 warships and three submarines. Two big blats in INS Sindhurakshak in August last year led to the death of 18 Naval personnel and the submarine sank.
For the present, the Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Robin Dhowan will officiate as Naval Chief, till a new chief takes over.
The Chief of Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha has been summoned to Delhi to explain why he resorted to insubordination. Sources said, he may be asked to quit, as it was his moral responsibility.
