Gurgaon, Jul 13: All new and old vehicles in Haryana will now be carrying high security registration plates as the work for affixing these plates began today.

The move comes after the state government recently announced a special scheme for affixing high-security number plates, which are mandatory for all registered vehicles in Haryana.

Under the scheme, all registered vehicles would be fixed with HSRP which are of a specific standard and specification and each plate would carry a unique code and a hologram. No other type of registration plates would be valid.

Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Ramendra Jakhu officially launched the scheme here today. Seventy-nine other registering authorities in the state have started affixing of HSRP from today.

Jakhu said the registration number written on this plate would be easily visible from a distance of 200 meters even during the night, saying that vehicles would be more easily nabbed in hit-and-run cases.

He said a self-destructible third registration plate sticker would also be fixed on the front wind screen of the vehicles to further increase security features.

The registration number plate once fitted on the vehicle cannot be removed, it can break but not removed. Jakhru said this will help the police in tracking the stolen vehicles as they can check vehicles with broken number plates.

A private company Link Utsav Registration Plates Limited has been allotted the work of affixing these plates in all districts of the state, he said.

A sum of Rs 121 will be charged from the owners of motorcycle and tractor for affixing high-security registration plate whereas Rs 140 and Rs 161 will be charged from the owners of scooters and three-wheelers respectively. Light motor vehicles and commercial vehicles will be charged Rs 364 and Rs 280 respectively under the scheme.
