Lucknow, Jun 23: The jailor and four other prison staffers were today suspended in connection with the mysterious death of deputy Chief Medical Officer Y S Sachan, the main accused in CMO B P Singh murder case, in Lucknow Jail.

“Jailor of the Lucknow Jail, a deputy jailor, a head constable jail guard and two guards have been placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty,” an official spokesman said here.

He said that based on the preliminary report, a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the suspended staffers. The main accused in the murder of Chief Medical Officer (Family Welfare) B P Singh, Sachan was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the Lucknow district jail hospital last night after which the government ordered a judicial probe into the incident.

“According to jail superintendent B S Mukund and doctor V P Tripathi, Y S Sachan was found dead in the toilet of the hospital,” Inspector General of Jail V K Gupta had said.“Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide and postmortem is being conducted,” Gupta said. Sachan was named in CMO murder case as the main accused by police following the arrest of three persons by the Special Task Force on June 17.

Singh was shot dead by unidentified persons on the morning of April 2 when he had gone out for a walk. Sachan was arrested immediately after Singh's murder when the investigating agencies detected swindling of funds to the tune of several crore of rupees in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh. Sachan's name was also linked to the murder of another CMO (Family Welfare) Vinod Kumar Arya who was shot dead in October last year.

Meanwhile, the brother of deputy Chief Medical Officer Y S Sachan has demanded a CBI probe into his death. “I want a CBI probe into the murder of my brother...He has been murdered”, R K Sachan, elder brother of the Deputy CMO, told reporters.

“Have you ever heard of anyone hanging from his belt...My brother was innocent”, he said. The STF had on June 17 arrested three persons - Ram Krishna Verma, Anand Tewari and Vinod Sharma - who had confessed to the crime and named Sachan as the main conspirator.

Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh had said the police had picked up the trio from the Madiyaon police station area in Lucknow. They told the police that they had received Rs 7 lakhs for committing the crime.

On the motive behind the murder, the cabinet secretary had said it was the outcome of massive irregularities in the department with regard to purchase of medicines and other items besides payments, in which the role of Sachan was also proved.Sachan was already in jail as preliminary inquires had pointed an accusing finger at him.
Sachan was arrested immediately after Singh's murder when the investigating agencies detected swindling of funds to the tune of several crore of rupees in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission in the state.

Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh today demanded a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Sachan  alleging that the ruling BSP was shielding the guilty as its leaders were involved in the case.

The main opposition Samajwadi Party today alleged that Y S Sachan, the main accused in the CMO B P Singh murder case, was murdered to save former ministers of the ruling BSP and said that only a CBI inquiry can expose the real culprits.

“There have been a series of scams in the state and now the mysterious death of the deputy CMO appears to be a conspiracy to keep the names of the real culprits under cover,” said Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and senior SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav.

SP state president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that Sachan was done away with “to save two former ministers of the Mayawati government” who were involved in a scam.  “We demand a CBI probe into the matter as the state government and its officers are trying every trick to hush-up the case which is connected to the Chief Minister's office,” he said.

He also asked the Supreme Court to take suo-motu cognisance of the matter.
Both the leaders also slammed Chief Minister Mayawati for the spurt in crimes against women in the state and urged Governor B L Joshi to dismiss the government.

The BJP, meanwhile, said that the state government was out to “shield the corrupt” by proving Sachan's death as a suicide case.

“Sachan was an accused in the CMO B P Singh murder case which had led to the removal of two ministers... Sachan might have been out to spill the beans which could have been the reason of his mysterious death,” vice president of BJP, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, told reporters in Lucknow.

Naqvi claimed that for the last four years the Mayawati government was using criminals to hide its “misdeeds”.  “This government is out to shield criminals and the corrupt to hide its own misdeeds and Sachan's murder is a clear example,” Naqvi said.

Meanwhile, the state Congress unit has announced that the party would stage demonstrations across the state on June 25 to press for a CBI inquiry into CMO B P Singh's murder.  “We will stage demonstrations at all district headquarters on June 25 to press for a CBI inquiry into the CMO B P Singh murder case and to demand dismissal of the state government,” party spokesman Subodh Srivastava said.

He said that on June 27 the party will also take out a ‘Nyaya Yatra' in the state capital which will led by UPPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi. PTI
