First solo in India for Israeli artist David Gerstein

New Delhi: After his vibrant 3-D sculptural metal installations were showcased at the India Art Fair earlier this year, Israeli artist David Gerstein has arrived in person to exhibit a body of new works for

“The forms, shapes and colour palette compliment the organic environment of Joseph Allen Stein's building of the Habitat Centre. The earth red of the fly ash bricks, and the greenery of the local trees and flowers are a perfect backdrop to highlight the beauty of the Gerstein's colour palette and his three dimensional forms enrich the clean modern lines of Stein's buildings,” says Pande.

The aritst's works are simple, straightforward and colourful.

His great success seems to speak of the community's deep need for this type of creation. Whereas the artists of his generation adopted Minimalism and Conceptualism at the heart of their creation, Gerstein says he always refused to join the mainstream and continued to create simple and vivid scenes of the everyday life.

“My art has always traversed its own path apart from trendy movements and I have stayed away from the ‘isms', though often it's been called ‘pop art'.

I was a narrative artist from the very beginning and wanted to get people's attention by representing the values I share with the common art lover.

“I want to share beauty and happiness and make people aware that there are great values we have as people and not just violence and disasters.
