Chennai: Revoking their earlier decision to close over 4,500 private schools tomorrow in support of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, Federation of Associations of Private Schools in Tamil Nadu today announced that schools would reopen tomorrow itself.

However, its decision to hold a protest in the Directorate of School Education campus by correspondents of all private schools tomorrow remained, D C Elangovan, Secretary, Federation of Associations of Private Schools in Tamil Nadu said in a statement.

He had announced yesterday that over 4,500 private schools would remain closed in support of Jayalalithaa, who is in prison in Bangalore after a Special Court there convicted and sentenced her to four years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.

Various leaders including DMK president M Karunanidhi had opposed the decision to close schools protesting against the jailing of Jayalalithaa.

Private schools across Tamil Nadu were to reopen after Pooja holidays on October 7.
