Aizawl, Apr 14: Mizoram Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department has asked all the deputy commissioners of the districts adjoining Myanmar to issue prohibitory orders banning import of pigs from that country.

State AH and Veterinary department director Dr L.  B. Sailo said that the prohibitory orders would be issued by the concerned DCs during next week.

Sailo told PTI that Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), which was much more dangerous than the classic swine flu that hit Aizawl and some parts of the state, was spreading in Myanmar and there has been an epidemic-like situation in that country.

“The current classic swine flu has subsided and no fresh infections reported in Aizawl city,” he said, adding that around 80 per cent of the swine flu cases were cured due to the all-out efforts of the state veterinary doctors.

Meanwhile, Executive Member for Local Administration of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) in southernmost Saiha district issued an order under relevant sections of the MADC (Public Health and Sanitation) Rules, 2012 asking the people not to eat pork or smoked pork as it would be harmful for health.
