Mumbai, May 22: The Bombay High Court today asked the Maharashtra government to consider parole for a 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case convict who is presently serving life sentence.

Mohammad Mushtaq Moosa Tarani, whose death penalty was recently reduced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court, approached the High Court seeking to be released on parole next month to enable him to attend his daughter's wedding.

Additional public prosecutor Anuradha Mane today opposed the petition and said Tarani has not gone through the proper channel to seek parole. A parole application has to be made before the relevant deputy commissioner of police who then calls for a report.

A vacation bench of Justices A H Joshi and M L Tahaliyani, however, asked the government to treat the petition as an application and take a decision on it by May 27.

Tarani had planted RDX laden suitcase in suburban Juhu Centaur hotel. He had also attended conspiracy meetings with absconding accused Tiger Memon and surveyed possible sites to be targeted.
