New Delhi, Dec 8: Congress today justifed CBI raids at the residences of former Telecom Minister A Raja in connection with 2G spectrum allocation case saying it was a "culmination" of the investigation and ruled out any impact of the development on its alliance with DMK.

"If prima facie no misdemeanour was made out, subsequent action would not have been initiated into the matter... If CBI would have believed that there was no misdemeanour committed, they would not have registered an FIR," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters here.

He said CBI had registered the case suo motu after investigations were ordered by the UPA government and not on the direction of any court adding "today, these investigations have culminated into raids or searches".

Tewari at the same time hastened to add "subsequently the truth will be established by the court".

When pointed out that CBI began investigations into the case after being prompted by CVC, he said "the CVC falls within the ambit of the executive not the legislature or the judiciary. It is also a part of the large establishment of the government."

The spokesperson made the remarks in response to a question on whether his attack on NDA's telecom policy meant there was nothing wrong in what Raja did in the Spectrum allocation and whether CBI raids were uncalled for.

Tewari, also expressed the confidence said the action against Raja would have no bearing on the party's alliance with DMK. PTI
