Unnao rape case: BJP MLA defends Kldeep Sengar, says 'impossible to rape mother of 3 children'

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA today came out in defence of his colleague Kuldeep Sengar, who is facing allegations of raping a minor in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district last year.

BJP MLA from Bairia Surendra Singh claimed that it was not possible to rape a mother of three children. "I am speaking from the psychological point of view, no one can rape a mother of 3 children. It is not possible..." Singh added that Sengar was a victim of a conspiracy, "...this is a conspiracy against him (Kuldeep Sengar). Yes maybe her father was thrashed by some people but I refuse to believe rape charge."

Meanwhile, BJP leader Deepti Bhardwaj termed the incident a failure of UP government.

"No one is greater than Amit Shah in BJP and that's why I thought I should inform him what has disgraced our party. This is the failure of UP govt because we fought for women's respect but risked it just for saving the image of an influential person," Bhardwaj told media.

Taking cognizance of the case, CM Yogi Adityanath has constituted a Special Investigation Team headed by Additional Director General of Police (Lucknow zone). The team today visited Makhi village of the rape victim and collected information to submit a report to the chief minister.

The Supreme Court said today it will hear next week the plea for a CBI probe into the case. The Allahabad High Court has ordered that the deceased's body should not be cremated if already not done so.

However, the mortal remains of the deceased were consigned to the flames yesterday, hours after his custodial death.

The Congress demanded the dismissal of Uttar Pradesh chief minister, dubbing his government a "Ravan" regime which has failed to protect women.

"Yogi Adityanath government is a government of Ravan, which has failed to protect women," Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said in New Delhi.
