Tejashwi Yadav backs Anand Kumar

Bihar assembly opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav has come out in support of Bihar mathematician Anand Kumar, who trains underprivileged students for IIT entrance exams. Anand Kumar is at the centre of a controversy following his students’ allegations of providing false information about his well-known Patna-based coaching centre, Super 30.

Tejashiw Yadav claimed that the accusations against Anand Kumar are part of a well-organised propaganda. It is a conspiracy by the media to discredit and defame Anand Kumar because he hails from a low caste, he said.

"Every Bihari is proud of Anand's achievements & awards. He has brought laurels for the State through his hard work & dedication. Many promising students facing abject poverty have been gifted a new life through his vision, help & timely guidance," Tejashwi tweeted.

BJP leader and actor Shatrughan Sinha also backed the well-known Super 30 mentor Anand Kumar over the controversy. Sinha took to Twitter and posted a series of tweets over the matter.

"I am fond of him & proud of him like many of you. Hope, wish & pray that the society would be able to distinguish all these sponsored issues & stand by Mr Anand Kumar at this stage so that he is able to continue his mission of taking our nation to the top...Jai Bihar. Jai Hind!" tweeted Shatrughan Sinha.

Some former students have alleged that Anand Kumar fabricated the total number of students to have cracked IIT-JEE 2018 under his tutelage.

According to the students, only three students cleared the entrance test as against 26, claimed by Kumar. In addition, the students also alleged that Kumar teaches for another institute and had even asked students to join the class instead of Super 30.

Kumar provides food and accommodation to all 30 students round the year during the training process.

Nearly 500 students from the institute have qualified for admission to IITs in past 16 years.
