There are many people who hold unique records in the field of Yoga.

International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21. The establishment of International Yoga Day was done in 2015 as a UN initiative. It is celebrated by 170 member states of United Nations. Yogi’s are not considered competitive on the mat. But occasionally, the yogi’s around the get together and take a pledge to set a record. Yogis do this to either gain fame or promote yoga and its benefit to the world.

Here are 5 amazing records that are set related to Yoga.

 

1. Oldest yoga teacher: Ida Herbert of Canada has been registered as the oldest yoga teacher. She taught yoga at the YMCA in Canada for 20 years but after retirement she continued to teach a weekly class in the Bayshore Village area of Ontario. Her secret to long life is enjoying gardening and staying away from junk food.

 2. Longest yoga Marathon: Longest yoga marathon for male record is held by Dr V Gunasekaran of Tamil Nadu. He practised a variety of yoga positions for 69 hours. The same record for female is held by Canadian Yasmin Fudakowska-Gow’s who performed 1,008 asanas for 32 hours.

3. Largest yoga lesson: 35,985 people gathered together to set the record for the largest yoga class in Rajpath, new Delhi to set the record. Four yoga instructors led the massive class with the help of 32 LED screens scattered around the venue.

4. Largest Prenatal Yoga Class: 1,546 expectant mothers gathered at Rajkot on June 2016 to perform prenatal yoga as an International Yoga Day’s celebration. India’s Prime Minister reacted to their feat via Twitter: “I congratulate these women for embracing Yoga and joining the #IDY2016 celebrations. Very inspiring.”

5. Most consecutive yoga positions on a motorcycle: On 21st December 2013, Hav Ramesh of Jabalpur made a record of the most consecutive yoga positions on a motorcycle,50. He covered a total distance of 5 km and included 10 reverse positions in the entire act.
