In a tragic incident in Karnataka, a private bus travelling from Hosanagar to Bengaluru caught fire on Thursday, leaving at least 10 passengers injured. As per details, the bus was carrying 36 people at the time of the mishap. Authorities confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated from the bus before the fire could spread further. Emergency services promptly reached the scene to control the flames and assist the injured.
"At least 10 passengers sustained minor injuries after a private bus travelling from Hosanagar to Bengaluru with 36 passengers onboard caught fire on Thursday," Officials said. There was no loss of life in the incident.
Bus accident in Chitradurga
In December 2025, a tragic accident occurred near Gorlathu village in the Hiriyur taluk of Chitradurga district on National Highway 48. A private bus, travelling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga, was involved in a collision with a lorry. The impact caused the bus, a sleeper coach, to catch fire. The lorry, which was travelling from Hiriyur to Bengaluru, reportedly crossed the divider, causing the collision. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Hiriyur rural police station.
'Lorry driver's negligence cost the accident'
Reports suggested that the accident, which happened under the jurisdiction of the Hiriyur rural police station in wee hours of the day, happened due to the negligence of the lorry driver. The lorry had crossed the divider and crashed into the bus, which resulted in a fire that claimed over 10 lives. The police suspect that the driver of the lorry may have fallen asleep, saying that a probe is underway.
"The accident happened around 2 am on NH-48. The truck was heading to Bengaluru when its driver fell asleep and crossed the divider before hitting a bus. The bus immediately caught fire. The truck also caught fire and its driver died immediately," Bandaru said while speaking to reporters.
