Mumbai, Jul 5: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma lodged a complaint today against the BJP Yuva Morcha for threatening him after he said he wanted to work with Maria Susairaj, a convict in the 2008 Neeraj Grover murder case.

“Just lodged a complaint with the Versova police against the BJP Yuva Morchas threat to me on the Maria Susairaj issue,” Varma wrote on twitter.

Varma, who has made a film ‘Not A Love Story' on the gruesome incident, came under fire after saying that he was interested in casting the Kannada actress for a role in his next film.

“Other organizations warnings I got to hear from the media but the BJP sent a signed warning letter directly to my office,” Varma said on the micro-blogging site.

“If sm1 hs bn convicted nd the person servd a gvn sentence she has a right to start her life afresh nd thts a part of civilized society (sic),” he added.

The cine-wings of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also have warned filmmakers and TV channels against casting Maria.

On Thursday, former Navy officer Emile Jerome was awarded rigorous imprisonment of 10 years in the murder case while his girlfriend Maria, who was sentenced for three years, walked free as she has already spent the term behind bars. PTI
