First weekend collection: SRK's 'Dilwale' rules box office, Ranveer's 'Bajirao Mastani' wins hearts

New Delhi: This weekend has turned out to be the most exciting weekend at the box office and the credit goes to the release of the two big movies.

This weekend saw the clash of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Bajirao Mastani' and Rohit Shetty's ‘Dilwale'. ‘Dilwale' has an ensemble cast which includes Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. ‘Bajirao Mastani', on the other hand, features Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.

Both the movies were amongst the most awaited movies of the year, and are now actually minting crores at the box office.

Amidst the speculations of high voltage clash between ‘Dilwale' and ‘Bajirao Mastani', both the movies received a grand opening. However, Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol's ‘Dilwale' managed to take the lead over Ranveer-Deepika's ‘Bajirao Mastnai'.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the third day collection of SRK's ‘Dilwale' as Rs 24 crores, taking its first weekend collection to a sum of Rs. 65.09 crores.

And despite getting negative reviews, ‘Dilwale' has maintained its lead even on the third day.  Infact, the movie has crossed the mark of Rs. 100 crore worldwide in its opening weekend. It's India business stands at Rs.65.09 crore, and it made $8.5 million (approximately Rs.56 crore) came in from the overseas market.

However, Bajirao Mastani is gaining momentum gradually as is opened with Rs. 12.80 crores, it earned Rs. 15.52 crore on its second day.

And according to Taran Adarsh,  Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Bajirao Mastani' has earned Rs. 18.45 crores on its third day of release. So the first weekend collection of the movie is around Rs. 46.77 crores.

Although, the second day box office report suggested that the gap between the collections of the two films had narrowed, but the first weekend report clears the air stating that SRK's ‘Dilwale' is way too ahead of Ranveer's ‘Bajirao Mastani' with a margin of around Rs. 19 crores.
