New Delhi :  CBI on Thursday  urged the Supreme Court to sustain the six years sentence to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt for possession of illegal arms in the 1993 Mumabi blasts.

Appearing before a bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan, senior counsel Gopal Subramaniam submitted the prosecution had established unimpeachable evidence to prove Dutt's possession of arms in connection with the riots.

CBI today concluded its argument in the appeal filed by Dutt challenging his conviction under the Arms Act.

The apex court had on November 1, 2011, commenced final hearing on appeals filed by the convicts as well as CBI in 1993 Mumbai blasts case in which 12 persons were awarded death penalty and 78 others sentenced to varying jail terms ranging from three years to life imprisonment.

CBI, however, has chosen not to appeal against Dutt who was acquitted of the charge of conspiracy in the blast under the tough TADA but was awarded six years imprisonment by a designated court for being in illegal possession of arms under the Arms Act.
