Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amrita Rao starrer Thackeray might have not earned dollars on its opening day, but the second day arrived with numbers pouring at the box office. After earning Rs 6 crores on the first day, the biopic on the life and time of late Shiv Sena leader Bala Saheb Thackeray managed to collect Rs 10 crores, making its total as Rs 16 crores. However, the film also starring Amrita Rao and Sudhir Mishra in important roles has done well in Maharashtra majorly.
Trade analyst and Bollywood critic Taran Adarsh took to his social media to share the latest box office figures of the movie and wrote, “#Thackeray biz jumps on Day 2... Gets the benefit of #RepublicDay holiday... While #Maharashtra continues to lead, the remaining circuits show an upward trend on Day 2... #Marathi version is excellent... Fri 6 cr, Sat 10 cr. Total: ₹ 16 cr. India biz. #Hindi #Marathi”
Directed by Abhijit Panse, the film attracted a pool of controversies before its release but is received well by the audience. The film hit the theatres alongside Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi which has managed to bring in great numbers on the second day. Taran Adarsh revealed, “#Manikarnika sees remarkable growth on Day 2... Strong word of mouth has come into play, while #RepublicDay holiday has given the much-required boost... Day 3 will be in double digits again... Fri 8.75 cr, Sat 18.10 cr. Total: ₹ 26.85 cr. India biz. #Hindi #Tamil #Telugu”
Made with the budget of 30 crores, Thackeray is expected to turn out as a hit since the Marathi version is doing extremely well on the box office. On the other hand, while the film has been claimed as the ‘propaganda film’, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s stellar performance is attracting many fans to the theatres.
