Veteran actress of Hindi and Bengali cinema, Sumita Sanyal passed away at the age of 71. The actress was married to film editor Subodh Roy. She started her film career by a Bengali film ‘Khokhababur Pratyabartan’ in 1960. She has done more than 40 Bengali films including ‘Sagina Mahato’ featuring Dilip Kumar. Sanyal was in the lead role in ‘Kuheli’ opposite Biswajit and Sandhya Roy. She has done a number of Hindi films as well. One of the most noted one was ‘Anand’ opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna.
Sumita Sanyal is famous for her acting performance in popular films like ‘Guddi’, ‘Aashirwad’ and ‘Mere Apne’. Born on October 9,1645, the actress is renowned face in both Indian and Bengali cinema.
Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee tweeted her condolences on Sumita’s death. She tweeted:

Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee also expressed grief over her demise. He posted, ‘Saddened to hear about the demise of the veteran actress Sumita Sanyal May her soul rest in peace’
