Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming drama film Omerta, helmed by Hansal Mehta, is all set to release on April 20. The makers of the film announced the official release date via statement on Saturday. The film is based on the life of a British terrorist of Pakistani descent Ahmed Omar Saeed. Rajkummar Rao is playing the titular role of Omar Saeed in Omerta.
Rajkummar, who sports a bespectacled and heavily bearded look in the film, had earlier described the movie as: "It shows you the dark reality of a dangerous world."
In literal terms, ‘Omerta means a code of silence about criminal activity and a refusal to give evidence to the police.’
"Omerta" marks the return of the formidable actor-director team of Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar, who have worked together in films like "Aligarh", "CityLights" and "Shahid". They also did a popular web series Bose dead/alive together, which got critically acclaimed for more than one reasons.
The film has won several accolades and was featured at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was also screened at the Jio MAMI Film Festival. It is produced by Nahid Khan and presented by Swiss Entertainment.
