The film courted many controversies ahead of its release due to CBFC, Chitrangada Singh and Nawaz's tweet on racism. In the reign of Pahlaj Nihalani, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz was suggested 48 cuts in the film by Censor Board, however, it hit the screens with minor 8 cuts. Chitrangada Singh walked out of the film owing to some problems with the script, thus paving way for Bidita Bag.
