Tal and Koregaon: Aamir Khan adopts two drought hit villages in Maharashtra

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has adopted two villages in the drought-hit Marathwada region - Tal and Koregaon.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who is the brand ambassador of Mahrashtra government’s ‘Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan’, has adopted two villages in the drought-hit Marathwada region - Tal and Koregaon.

The ‘PK’ star has been touring currently to teach the villagers about water conservation and watershed management.

Recently, the superstar also visited Beed from Auranagabad, one of the three worst affected districts in Maharashtra. During the campaign Aamir Khan praised the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan and said:

"Arresting rain water and conserving every drop are the only options to fight droughts and drought-like situations in the long run."

This is not the first that Mr. Khan has come forward and extended his helping hand for the social cause. In 2011, he had had adopted villages in Kutch in Gujarat after the worst earthquake jolted the state.

Earlier, Akshay Kumar had donated Rs 50 lakh for Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan to extend his support to the drought-hit regions in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra is currently going through the one of the worst drought situation in history. Out of 43,000 villages in the state, 27,723 villages have been declared drought-hit and 54 out of the 75 medium dams have been declared dry.
