Bihar bypolls: RJD retains Jehanabad Assembly seat

Defeat of JD(U) nominee Abhiram Sharma at Jehanabad is a bad news for Nitish Kumar who had in July last year dumped the Grand Alliance and joined hands with the BJP to form a coalition government.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) today retained the Jehanabad assembly with its candidate Kumar Krishna Mohan Yada alias Suday Yadav defeating Janata Dal (United) rival Abhiram Sharma by more than 30,000 votes. 

 
Suday Yadav is the son of former state minister Mundrika Singh Yadav, whose death necessitated the bypoll. 

According to the Election Commission, Yadav defeated Sharma by 35,036 votes. 

Defeat of JD(U) nominee Abhiram Sharma at Jehanabad is a bad news for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who had in July last year dumped the Grand Alliance and joined hands with the BJP to form a coalition government. 

Meanwhile, RJD leaders and workers celebrated across the state by distributing sweets and bursting fire crackers.
