Kaun Banega Crorepati 13: Bollywood star Hema Malini and 'Sholay' director Ramesh Sippy come on the hotseat answering to questions of host and megastar Amitabh Bachchan. They will be celebrating 46 years of 'Sholay'.
KBC 13: Not only this, Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan will also be seen recreating a moment from their iconic song 'Dilbar Mere'. The director will also be challenging Amitabh and Hema to enact scenes from the popular film as well.
"On this sad day, I have to say that dream of mine is the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank God for giving me that golden chance to work with Dilip Sahab. Dilip Kumar Sahab is no more, but his memories and his huge body of work will always be there with us," says Ramesh Sippy.
Sholay starred Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan among others. The film is remembered for Amjad Khan's iconic performance as the film's arch villain, dacoit Gabbar Singh.
Sholay, a cult classic about revenge and redemption, was initially set to have its key characters of Jai-Veeru and Thakur from Army background and a different ending, says director Ramesh Sippy, who never imagined the phenomenon his film would become upon its release 45 years ago.
"It is really sad to know that Jagdeep is no more. What a wonderful character it was, what a wonderful actor he was... (What a) Wonderful father he has been. I am sure everybody loved him. He gave me the wonderful character of Soorma Bhopali. He brought it to life," said Ramesh Sippy.
An attempt to recreate "Sholay" was done by Ram Gopal Varma in 2007, with "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag". However, Varma's attempt was universally rejected and the film failed at box office. Sippy's "Sholay" starred Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan among others. Today, the film is primarily remembered for Amjad Khan's iconic performance as the film's arch villain, dacoit Gabbar Singh.
