The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has said that at least 99 doctors have succumbed to coronavirus in India while over 1,300 have been infected by COVID-19. Maharashtra is the worst-hit state in terms of the percentage of doctors who died after getting infected to coronavirus.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Wednesday, interacted with the doctors of the Indian Medical Association via video conference. In his address to the doctors, he appreciated the work that they have put in during these desperate times and appealed to them to not do carry even a symbolic protest that had been suggested by the organisation keeping in mind the safety and the security of the medical staff.

Out-patient departments (OPDs) in private hospitals and nursing homes are closed," Indian Medical Association's (IMA) Karnataka unit treasurer B. Veeranna told IANS in Bengaluru.
"There is a complete breakdown of law and order, with reports of mobs attacking doctor hostels with weapons. The government has failed to provide protection and justice to doctors," the statement read. "AIIMS RDA condemns this in words and in spirit. Residents across the country are deeply hurt by these turn of events.
Indian medical fraternity has said that it is 'deeply pained by our PM’s uncalled for and unjust remarks. Because of these remarks, goodwill and esteem we have for him stands dented'.
According to the IMA, the NMC will "cripple" the functioning of the medical profession by making it completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators.
The IMA, a consortium of doctors across India, also demanded no compulsion from private hospital managements to make their doctors work vis-a-vis targets and prescribe the choice of drugs and devices.
