A group of Congress workers turned vendors and sold vegetables as a protest in front of the Municipal Corporation office on July 13, against rising prices of fuel and vegetables.
His remarks came a day after petrol prices were hiked by 31 to 35 paise while diesel by 26 to 30 paise on June 29, taking the fuel prices across the country to a historic high.
Across the country as well petrol and diesel prices increased between 24-28 paise per litre on Monday but its retail prices varied depending on the level of local taxes in different states.
Monday's hike is the 17th hike in May. Notably, the month of May has seen one of the steepest hikes in petrol and diesel prices this year.
Petrol prices in Mumbai rose by 26 paisa to Rs 98.12 a litre on Tuesday. Similarly, diesel prices in the city also rose 31 paisa per litre to Rs 89.48, the highest in all four major metro cities in the country
The Centre might have slashed the fuel rates so that the BJP does not suffer on the issue of price rise in the five poll-bound states, including West Bengal, the Shiv Sena alleged on Friday without naming the NDA constituent.
Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the second time on Tuesday till 2 pm amid protests by Opposition members over the rising fuel prices.
