With smartphones companies trying to make their way through notch less display design, Sharp, on the other hand, feels having two notches are better. The company has launched the new Sharp Aquos R2 compact that has a notch both on top and bottom. The design here sure does look like an evolution over the single notch design of its predecessor called the Aquos R compact.
Sharp Aquos R2 compact specifications
The Aquos R2 compact comes with a 5.2-inch IGZO display that is manufactured by Sharp and comes with Full HD+ resolution support with features like HDR10 support and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The exceptional part of the display is the 120 Hz refresh rate. The phone is waterproof with an IP68 rating.
Powering the smartphone is the Snapdragon 845 processor with support for 4GB RAM and features an inbuilt storage of 64 GB via microSD card that can be expanded to 512GB via microSD card. For optics, the Aquos R2 compact comes with a 22.6 Megapixel wide-angle rear camera with rear LED flash and comes with ProPix image quality engine that can improve the performance by adjusting the exposure and white balance. Other features of the rear camera include the support for OIS, EIS and AI scene detection. Towards the front is the 8 Megapixel sensor placed inside the front notch and the display of the phone acts as the flash while clicking selfies. The front camera also aids for face unlock support.
The smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie and gets Sharp’s very own EMOPA voice-assistant. It houses a 2,500mAh battery under the hood and comes with other connectivity features like 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C and 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Sharp Aquos R2 compact will come in three colour variants of Green, White and Black. The phone is available only in Japan for now.
