NIS (Serbia), Feb 10: Janko Tipsarevic defeated Filip Prpic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 Friday to give Serbia a 1-0 lead over Sweden in the first round of the Davis Cup.
The ninth-ranked Tipsarevic had 11 aces and converted four of five break points, while Prpic failed to use any of the five chances he had for a break.
Prpic is ranked No. 1,426, but Tipsarevic says "the rankings don't do him justice."
Serbia is playing without top-ranked Novak Djokovic, who is resting after winning the Australian Open.
Serbia beat Sweden 4-1 last season.
