Mumba: Fresh from his return to the Indian team during the just concluded one-day international series in New Zealand, pace bowler Varun Aaron has set his sights on the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

The young quickie from Jharkhand was among the wickets in each of the three matches that he played and also clocked 150kmph during the recent series.

Aaron moved to quash initial speculation that he was considering giving the IPL a miss to look after his fitness, saying he is raring to feature in India's prized T20 event having missed out last season due to injury.

“I'm really looking forward to playing this season's IPL, especially after having to watch in agony from the sidelines last year,” said the 24-year-old Aaron Wednesday.

“The only reason my name was not in the initial IPL auction list was simply down to some paper work. That's all cleared up now.”

Aaron also said he was more than pleased with the manner in which his body has coped with the workload since his return from a niggling back injury.

“I think the Ranji Trophy season and now the series in New Zealand have shown that my physical issues of the past are behind me,” he said.

Having earned a spot in the Rest of India squad which will take on newly-crowned Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka Feb 9, Aaron is focused on making the most of every outing to get his bowling where he wants it to be.

“There's certainly a lot of cricket before the IPL and every opportunity that comes my way before that will prove extremely useful in further sharpening my bowling,” he said.
