IPL 7: Kolkata showed how to lose a match from a winning position

Yes, it's the Kolkata Knight Riders who have again fallen down to a humiliating defeat by 10 runs against Rajasthan Royals in Ahemdabad on Monday.After putting Rajasthan to bat first, they posted a daunting target of 171 for KKR. But KKR started their chase with a blast and they were on a winning position till 14th over but what happened next, the result says everything. KKR lost their 4th match in a row this season and this is the third match they lose being the chokers. When a team loses 6 wickets in just 2 runs, can you expect that team to win?After Watson got his three, old gun Pravin Tambe took a fantastic hat-trick, the first of the season that took the Knight Riders down to hell.Let's look out how the team collapsed from a strong positionKolkata Knight Riders were no doubt in a winning position when Gautam Gambhir (54) and Robin Uthappa (65) built a solid partnership of 121 runs in just 14 overs. It was clear that KKR would take their revenge from RR of the last match loss.The downfall started when in form Gautam Gambhir after scoring a quick 54 off 34 deliveries was caught behind on the first ball of Shane Watson in the 15th over.Shane Watson struck his second wicket in third ball by dismissing Robin Uthappa who scored 65 off 52 balls including 3 sixes and 5 fours. He was caught at deep square leg after playing a poor shot on a slower delivery. Kolkata were 122 for 2 now.Again after one ball, Watson got his third wicket from the over. This time it was Andre Russell who again failed to read the slower delivery and got his middle stump out of the ground. It was Pravin Tambe's turn now! Manish Pandey didn't used his common sense and moved way ahead and too early from the crease, Tambe then fired the ball to leg side. Though it was a wide, but Tambe got his first wicket! Pandey was gone on duck. The next batsman in was Yusuf Pathan who was became another batsman to depart on a golden duck. That was full and Yusuf droved it back to the bowler. KKR 123/4 now in 15.1 overs.The third ball that Tambe delivered proved to be the moment of his life which he would like to cherish always. Ryan ten Doeschate who was the next man in for KKR, who came forward on a fuller delivery, the ball hit on his toe and was given out by the umpire. KKR slumped down to 123/6 in 15.2 overs from 121/0 in 14 overs. It was just the matter of 1.2 overs that took the knights down.Later Surya Kumar Yadav (9) and Shakib al Hasan (21) tried to take out the team from a pothole but it was too late!Poor selection and playing unnecessary shots when they should not have panic was the main reason that took the match away from KKR. Unfortunate captain Gautam Gambhir indirectly blamed rest of the batsmen in the presentation ceremony when he said that they (openers) should have finished the game. Watson finished with the bowling figures of 4-0-21-3; the most economical for RR while Pravin Tambe after taking a hat-trick finished at 4-0-26-3.Knight Riders also became the first team in the history of IPL to lose a match after scoring a century-run stand while chasing a target.
